Dirty Margarita

Cathy’s Dirty Margarit

This Dirty Margarita was made by my cousin Cathy when she and her husband went camping with us one weekend. Cathy made made this amazing spicy Dirty Margarita. It is sweet and sour cocktail that my cousin kept insisting was a sipping cocktail, but I loved it and found it disappeared all too quickly. It does take a bit of effort to juice all the lemons as it takes two lemons to make one cocktail but it is worth it.

The chilli salt on the rim was yummy and would be easy to make, though she did use a commercial chilli salt. You can make your own chilli salt by adding some dried chilli flakes or powder to some salt. Wet the rim of the glass with a cut lemon before running the rim of the glass through the spicy salt mix.

Jalapeño chillies need to be thinly sliced into rings and if you are brave, you can leave in the seeds, or add more than two slices. The chilli adds a lovely touch of heat and spice to the sweet and sour mix. Cathy’s Dirty Margarita would have to be my favourite Margarita version. However, you can vary the heat in this cocktail by carefully choosing your chillies. We started with Jalapeños chillies, but the choice is yours as to how brave you want to be.
